Ventilation is not a luxury

Fresh air and a good indoor climate are pre-requisites for healthy living.

With dampness in the building, it is impossible for it to feel cosy and comfortable. A musty smell is not only unpleasant but also extremely unhealthy if mould spores wreak havoc. Furthermore, the dampness results in expensive damage to textiles, furniture and also the structure of the building. Only adequate heating and ventilation can provide a permanent remedy here.

If the property is occupied and heated in the winter, the users can open the windows regularly. Some heat energy is, of course, lost in doing so.

The increasing impermeability of the building shell in new buildings and after renovation means that the "automatic" ventilation through gaps in windows and seams no longer exists.

An alternative solution must be found to ensure a sufficient supply of fresh air. Completely or partly forgetting to open the windows leads to serious problems. Mechanical ventilation devices are therefore being increasingly used to protect the building and its residents. However, please note: exhaust air systems constantly blow thermal heat outside and a ventilation system with heat recovery can sometimes only be retrofitted with considerable time and effort, especially in old buildings.

Particularly serious problems can be found in holiday and weekend homes which are partly unused in the winter!

If no-one is there, the property is not ventilated at all. A property which is neither heated nor ventilated in the winter will become damp, humid and mouldy. Heating the building to make it dry again requires a lot of time and energy. A lot of damage caused by dampness is sometimes even irreversible and, once it has taken root, mould is very difficult to remove.

Legal provision:

according to EnEV (German Energy Saving Act) Article 6, para. 2 and DIN 1946-6  a minimum exchange of air in new buildings and during renovation projects must be guaranteed. As soon as the imperviousness of the building shell is improved by means of new windows, for example, a ventilation concept must be drawn up.

Plus energy ventilation:

SolarAir collectors ventilate with an energy gain thanks to solar energy. The fresh air also transports solar heat into the house.

This has many advantages:
- no cold draft air
- no energy loss when ventilating
- simultaneous heating and ventilating is the best remedy against dampness.
